Indian Society for Surgery of Hand (ISSH) was formed in 1973. The ISSH is working in the Country to promote and direct the development of hand surgery and Rehabilitation. ISSH has taken initiative for formation of Indian Society for Hand Therapist (ISHT).The basic objective of the proposed ISHT is to provide a platform for qualified therapists both Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist to interact with each other and with the hand surgeons for developing quality care in Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. At present ISSH has proposed that the ISHT will function under the banner of ISSH until the formation of independent bylaws and constitution of ISHT followed by legal registration formalities. This process may take a while. At present the membership will be a dual membership i.e. Associate membership of ISSH and life membership of ISHT.Common platform for Therapists and SurgeonsAs a primary step towards bringing the Therapists and Surgeons on the same platform ISSH is holding its 33rd Annual Conference at New Delhi from 4th to 6th December 2009. All Therapists may please note that two senior Therapists i.e. Ms. Lynne Feehan- President of International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy (IFSHT), Canada and Ms. Sarah Ewald- Secretary General IFSHT, Switzerland are the visiting overseas faculties. The Organizing Secretary of the ISSH 2009 conference has conveyed that Ms. Lynne Feehan and Ms. Sarah Ewald will be conducting workshop, symposium and interactive sessions with Indian therapist on 4th December 2009. Registration fees for the Therapists is Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One Thousand) only per day.     Both Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapists came together to encourage the development of skilled and qualified Hand Therapists in India and formed Society for Hand Therapy with following aims


    1. To set and ensure the ethical practices at national level and also to promote high professional standards in the field of hand therapy by the members of SHT.
    2. To share scientific experience and research with colleagues, and also with Hand Surgeons and allied professionals dealing with hand patients.
    3. Advance and promote the study and general knowledge of treatment of the hand.
    4. To make collaborative links with key people and organizations associated with hand therapy.
    5. Sciety for hand therapy (SHT) is going to represent hand therapists in India and also to the and development of its members, as well as ensuring that hand therapy is provided for all those who need the service.
    6. To organize host and evaluate annual conferences with hand surgeons at national and international level.
    7. Publish and promote understanding and information in order to encourage high standards of care and research in this field.
    8. To assist and ensure that hand therapy is provided for all who need the service with a range of problems to maximize their functioning.
